What is the difference between absolute, sealed gage, vented gauge and differential pressure?

Pressure sensors measure pressure in comparison to a reference pressure and can be divided into:

  • Absolute
  • Sealed gauge
  • Vented gauge, and
  • Differential

Absolute pressure Absolute pressure is referenced to the vacuum of free space (zero pressure).

Vented Gauge pressure: Gauge pressure is measured relative to the ambient atmospheric pressure.

Sealed Gauge pressure: It is possible to seal and block the vent hole in the factory. The advantage of this sealing is that, pressure on back of the sensor will be constant and equal to atmospheric pressure in the manufacturing company. This is a sealed gauge pressure.

Differential pressure: Differential pressure is the difference between any two process pressures p1 and p2.

What is the difference between analogue and digital signal?

An analogue signal is infinitely continuous; a digital signal is quantised or broken up depending on bit resolution.

What is analogue to digital conversion?

This is the process in which an analogue signal is quantised into a digital signal, usually performed by a device known as an analogue to digital converter.

Is sampling rate affected by electrical loads, such as impedance of a sensor?

Typically not.

Is sampling rate affected by multiple sensors on the same logger?

For some multiplexed systems, sampling rate is divided equally among different channels, so please check specifications carefully.

Why do I sometimes see a –3db cut-off frequency listed as a specification, what does that mean?

This is the point where the signal will attenuate to about 70.7% of the original signal, usually chosen as a marker in which to describe the bandwidth of a filter or device.

What is Output and Input Impedance?

Output impedance is the minimum resistive load on an electrical output that will not cause a voltage drop for a given voltage. Input impedance is the amount of resistive loading in an electrical input.

What is the load cell, pressure transducer and LVDT resolution?

All MeasureX load cells, pressure transducers and LVDTs with analogue output have infinite resolution. The resolution is limited by the electronics noise that they are used with.

What is the “FS” or “RO” which are referred to in MeasureX products data sheet?

“FS” stands for Full Scale and “RO” stands for Rated Output of the transducer. Most errors are shown as a percentage of FS or RO.

What exactly is mV/V output?

The electrical output of a transducer is often stated in millivolts (mV) per volt (V) of sensor excitation at full range. For example the electrical voltage output of a load cell with 2mV/V output at rated capacity utilizing 10volts excitation will be 20mV at rated load.

What is the technology used on MeasureX Sensors?

MeasureX aims to stay abreast of the latest technologies to bring the best to our customers. The most appropriate technology is used to suit the varied applications we come across. Please check the data sheet of the specific product for more information.

Does cable length affect the load cell output?

Yes it does and, as a rule of thumb, generally these errors are negligible for a cable length of up to 20m. We do offer 6 wire load cells which help to compensate for the lead resistance and allows much longer cable lengths.

What is the range of excitation voltage that can be applied to the units?

Please check the excitation level in data sheet of each product. MeasureX can customise excitation voltage so please ask our sales department if you have a need for any non-standard excitation voltage.

Can I use your sensor with someone else's display?

Generally yes.

Do you have 1/2" and 3/8" pressure connection port?

Yes, it is available for most models in NPT, BSPT or BSPP. Please specify when you want to place the order.

Can I convert a 4-20 mA unit to a Voltage output unit?

Please contact Support@MeasureX.com.au for information on how you can convert 4-20mA output to 1-5V or 2-10V using a 250Ω or 500Ω precision resistor.

What is IP68?

Do we offer products with metric/non-metric units?

We offer several of the most common metric and non-metric scales on many catalogued products at no additional cost. Special scales can be created as per your requirements.

Can you custom build a sensor?

Yes, we customise our product offering all the time.

I have a product from another supplier and want to switch to MeasureX, what do I do?

We can generally help you with this transition. Please contact our sales department with the technical specification of your current sensor. Our engineers will help you to select the best alternative.

What methods of payment do you accept?

MeasureX prefers Electronic Funds Transfer and also accepts Visa and Mastercard. Please contact our accounts department for any further information.

How much will I be charged for shipping?

Shipping costs for your order are generally shown in the quotation and invoice we provide for you. Please contact our accounts department for additional details.

Can I buy an Extended Warranty for a Product?

Yes, we offer an extended warranty service. Please ask our sales department for more information.

Can I use my own shipping account?

Yes. If you have your own courier, just inform us when you place the order and the shipping cost will be charged to your courier account.

Can I place an order through a representative/reseller?

Absolutely! Our experienced regional sales representatives/resellers are ready to help you with all your needs. If there is no representative/reseller for your region, please place your order directly with MeasureX headquarter in Australia.

Does MeasureX ship internationally?

Yes, we ship our products to all corners of the world.

Accuracy and Calibration

What is specified by the temperature coefficient and how is it important to my readings?

Every transducer of various brands are affected by changes in temperature. MeasureX tests all its transducers for temperature and specifies the temperature coefficient to give an idea of the change per °C.

How often do our sensors need to be recalibrated?

There is no set life span for any of our products, as it varies based on usage. For critical applications, the unit should be typically tested annually.

Does MeasureX offer any certification on their products?

Every MeasureX sensor is thoroughly tested in the factory and a calibration or conformance certificate issued with each sensor supplied. NATA calibration certificate is an optional extra

I lost my certificate that came with my sensor, what do I do?

No problem. MeasureX keeps a backup of this information on all the sensors it manufactures. Please contact us for a copy.
