Remote Sensing With Submersible Pressure Sensors
As the name implies, pressure sensors are generally used to monitor the pressure of liquids and gases in the process industries. The sensors can also be used in a variety of different ways, such as in OEM applications and level measurement. Pressure sensors are available as transducers, transmitters, digital manometer, switches, and their design may vary depend on the type of applications. Some special applications, such as in high temperature, high pressure, melt pressure, level and vacuum measurement, require a very specific design in the sensors body to obtain stable and precise data.
Remote Monitoring Capability
The water and wastewater industry commonly use pressure sensors to measure the water level in their tank. Generally, the submersible pressure sensor is used for this type of level measurement and it need to be completely submerged in liquid to obtain precise measurement.
This method of measurement offers a remote sensing capability to quickly measure the water level in the tank. The sensors are designed with IP68 rating and the cable are designed long enough to transmit data to the operator. This has been widely implemented in the water industry and sewage monitoring.
There are some special conditions where using submersible pressure sensors for tank level measurement may not be feasible. For example, where the liquid mixture is volatile and continuously release fumes and gases. The general pressure sensors can be used to measure the tank pressure which can be correlated to the tank water level, as long as the sensors are capable to withstand that harsh environment. This is the least expensive method and it is very suitable for remote applications as they can be powered by batteries.
